CALLING FOR YOUNG HEARTS ON FLAME

Only twenty-four, that was the age of Ludwig Moser when he opened his own engraving workshop in the centre of Carlsbad. It might seem quite common for the youth of today, but, remember – it was 1857 when this first-time entrepreneur started his journey of success among the leading European aristocracy and royalty. The strength of Moser crystal already rested on one main thing at that time: details – those that could perfectly match and, at the same time, accentuate the luxury lifestyle of this social strata.

After more than 160 years since the foundation of the glassworks, we still cherish the values established by Ludwig Moser, and we know that the long tradition as well as never ending enthusiasm of our masters have to go hand in hand with new ideas and talents joining the glassworks. Thus, this year again, we open the internationally recognized Ludwig Moser Award and we look forward to meeting some other glasscraft lovers. The 9th year marks the extension of the competition to 3 main categories – apart from high school and higher professional or college students, working artists /designers of different levels of experience can apply as well. And what is the topic we assign to them?

We go back to the roots

To the core aspect which Ludwig and Leo Moser mastered to such a level that it reached even the most demanding lovers of art and beauty. The official assignment this year is: LUXURY IN DETAIL – DETAIL IN LUXURY. This opens space for imagination in all aspects of our craft: in shape, cut, engraving as well as in colouring. The designs just need to keep focus on the connection between detail and luxury as the main motives of the assigned task. Moreover, there are other criteria to judge – apart from the additional craft and art value, the competitors should, indeed, consider the feasibility of the product.

What can you get?

The title itself is a great honour in the glass industry worldwide.

There is, however, also prize money for the winner of each category. And last but not least, the feeling that is priceless for each artist – the possibility to see one’s own work to get its shape and attention in the prestigious Moser sales gallery. All of this is well-deserved as the competitors carry on the young creative spirit which stood at the beginning of Ludwig Moser’s amazing career.
