Strengthening self-sufficiency and sustainability
Our commitment to self-sufficiency and sustainability is exemplified by the installation of 1,146 photovoltaic panels on the roof of our glassworks. This unique initiative allows us to produce three-quarters of our electricity needs, with the added advantage of storing excess energy in battery storage.
"Czech crystal is one of the national jewels, and our task is to preserve and develop its production so that future generations can enjoy it. However, recent years have been marked by uncertainty in the energy markets, which has had a particularly noticeable impact on the energy-intensive glass industry. We have therefore decided to reduce costs, strengthen our energy independence and move towards more sustainable operation," says Pavel Mencl, Moser CEO.
To make solar energy as efficient as possible, we joined an exclusively Czech program that gives accumulators discarded from electric cars a second life. Our two stationary energy storages were created from them.
Planting of an orchard
Our commitment to the environment is deeply ingrained in our production process. We exclusively produce lead-free crystal, a testament to our respect for nature and the artisans who craft our products. We source our most crucial raw material, such as glass sand, from the local Střeleč area in the Czech Republic. In a nod to our traditional glass production, we have planted a pear orchard near the factory, ensuring a sustainable future for our glassmakers.
With respect for nature
We recycle everything that can be recycled during production, such as carborundum discs. Outside the glassworks, we recycle waste glass, grinding, and cutting materials. When packaging our crystal products, we use recyclable polystyrene and eco-friendly Flo-Pak fillings made from purely natural materials. The wastewater from the grinding mills undergoes strict and frequent control so that no pollution of the environment can occur. We have changed the decorating technology to be completely environmentally friendly – we no longer etch the glass with hydrofluoric acid but sandblast it.
All the measures mentioned have a common goal: to preserve traditional hand-made glass production and to be as environmentally friendly as possible.
