This year's Karlovy Vary International Film Festival is happening and we will be there
Although the festival has changed its date for this year, this is mainly so that it can take the form that spectators and visitors are used to. But there are traditions that are constantly observed and one of them is the crystal globe, which is the main prize for the winner of the 55th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival.
Gold and silver statuettes are waiting for this year's winner. The crystal globe, which comes from the hands of Moser glassmakers, is attached to a bronze statue, designed by Ema Černáková, the second vice-miss of the Czech Republic in 2001.
The grand festival prize, which measures 42 centimeters and weighs less than 5 kilograms, has already been awarded to a number of movie stars, including John Travolta, Oliver Stone, Susan Sarandon, Judi Dench, Jude Law, Robert de Niro, Robert Redford and many other. "The journey of the globes begins in the glassworks, where we make them from lead-free crystal. Molten glass with a temperature of over 1000 degrees Celsius needs to be formed. If the crystal then passes a strict quality control, it goes into the hands of the grinders. They again grind it into an ideal shape by hand and then polish. The last phase of the production of festival awards is the attachment of crystal balls to bronze statuettes, ”comments Martina Jirásková, Marketing Director of Moser.
Karlovy Vary International Film Festival is the largest festival in the Czech Republic and one of the most prestigious in the world, along with festivals in Cannes, Berlin, Venice and Tokyo
