Moser Combines Timelessness and Tradition in a New Collection by Jan Plecháč
Prague, 16 June 2023 – Moser is introducing the first collection of new artworks created by art director Jan Plecháč. These include, namely, the romantic Harmonic vases, the nature-inspired Pinea vases and the 1913 drinking set, also available in a limited edition called Bark. The common feature of all these works of art is timeless morphology and high craftsmanship. It is these attributes that the Moser brand wants to carry on into the future.
Delicacy and Power of Harmonic Vases
A modern collector’s piece and the indispensable essence of daily life – that is how one could describe the Harmonic vases. They represent high craftsmanship while capitalising on the contrast between their delicate, hand-cut lines and their robust bottom. Their oval shape invites creativity with floral arrangements. These new creations from the workshops of Karlsbad glassmakers will light up any interior. The face of the Harmonic vases is ballerina Miho Ogimoto. It is this combination that underlines the beauty, softness and delicacy of the new Moser arrivals.
“A vase that can capture and bring into your home instants of fleeting natural harmony. Morning mist, afterglow or dew on a flowering meadow – the enchanting hues of these ephemeral moments is cultivated by the fine, precise cut made by the hands of our master glassmakers to offer a new perspective on the world,” details the author Jan Plecháč the story of the Harmonic vases.
Emphasis on Craftsmanship and Colour
The Harmonic collection is available in two sizes and two colour designs – rose opal and smoke green – and in a matte or glossy finish. The rose opal builds on the original colour palette created by Leo Moser, the technical director and art director of the glassworks at the end of the 19th century. The smoke green represents a new heading set by the art director, Jan Plecháč, who thus introduced it into Moser’s colour range. The characteristic “spool” lines on the surface of the vases were created using the so-called hollow glass cutting. Every cut was made by hand and reflects the craftsmanship of Moser glassmakers.
1913 – A Timeless Drinking Set
The second new arrival is a drinking collection building on a historic Moser creation from 1913. One hundred and ten years later, Jan Plecháč brought it back to life and introduced it in a reinterpreted form. “The 1913 drinking set is inspired by an older but timeless set created in Moser glassworks over a hundred years ago. We pulled it from the archive and toyed around with its proportions and design to usher it into the new millennium. The collection breaks down the boundaries between heavy glasses for hard liquor and lightweight variants for soft drinks. I’m confident it will bring joy to future generations even after another 110 years,” says art director Jan Plecháč. The set consists of a decanter and three types of glasses, all made of crystal using the traditional hollow glass cutting technique. The set’s minimalistically segmented form and regular cut in the style of Vienna modernism make it a timeless piece. Both the decanter and the glasses are fitted with a golden M sign in the lens on the underside of the glass.
Inspiration by Nature in the Design of Pinea Vases
The Pinea collection is built on traditional craftsmanship and represents a return to handicraft and fundamental natural structures. The vases entice to be touched and awaken all the senses. Both the name and the design of the collection were inspired by the designer's walks through the forest and the smell and texture of pines. With this collection, Jan Plecháč brings into the Moser portfolio earthy colours and natural, imperfect structures.
Return to Core Values in the Bark Set
The Bark drinking set is a limited edition based on the 1913 collection. It replaces the collection’s pure forms with the irregularities of natural structures and emphasises the value of handicraft. Return to nature in today’s overly technical age was the main source of inspiration for the set. Each of its pieces thus has a unique structure that makes it truly one of a kind. With this, Bark invites not just visual but haptic exploration of its surface.
