Soul of the Forest
Moser‘s New Collection “Soul of the Forest” Draws Inspiration from the Harmony of Nature
Closer to nature and true values. For the new collection from Moser glassworks called Soul of the Forest, its author, art director Jan Plecháč, was inspired by the diversity of natural structures. The collection reflects a part of the forest, its soul, which the author then brings into a cultural environment: the interior. Through the collection, the author invites the viewer to open their mind and perceive with all the senses. The harmonising combination of colours and perfect structures brings an escape from the modern, mechanised world. The collection consists of the vases Fungi, Conea, Pinea and Microcosmos, the latter bearing an engraved illustration by Michal Bačák, as well as a drinking set and vase called Bark.

The Soul of the Forest collection, which will be introduced on Designblok in October, offers new possibilities in how to perceive the surrounding world in a non-traditional way, form a new relationship with it through the senses and embrace the combination of colour, structure and harmony that can be found in the forest. “I strive to ensure that everything that comes out of our glassworks carries emotion. The Soul of the Forest collection evokes pleasant feelings and awakens a desire to touch,” Jan Plecháč elaborates.
For Jan, the forest represents freedom, a place where you can move freely and be yourself. He imbued these feelings into the production process itself. For this collection, the cutter does not work based on a drawing, as is usual, but instead works only from their own idea of what the product should look like. “They should keep to the idea of the vase but the result is in their hands. The dynamic cut reflects the cutter‘s current mood and state of mind. Therefore, the end result can be more expressive, or more tender, but is always unique,” adds Jan.
Vases from the Soul of the Forest Collection
Fungi
The Fungi vase invites haptic perception, its image can be read like poetry. The vase features a delicate cut of fungal sporangium and has a soft, light, peach colour. The skill of the cutters is put on display as they masterfully transpose the delicate architecture into crystal. Fungi comes in two sizes, a larger 26.5 cm tall version and a smaller version at 23.5 cm.
Conea
This elegant vase with an elaborate cut inspired by the fir cone evokes the desire to touch. It opens new perspectives, perceptions and experiences. The decorative Conea is unique within the Soul of the Forest collection by its horizontal cut, which allows more light to shine through than a vertical cut would. The vase was created in two sizes, one standing 26.5 cm tall and the other 23.5 cm tall. The crystal of the taller version is underlaid with purple opal, while the shorter one comes in clear crystal.
Microcosmos
The Microcosmos vase is a meeting of traditional art and modern design with a contemporary original illustration. It represents a work of masterful collaboration between Moser‘s art director Jan Plecháč, illustrator Michal Bačák, and the best glassmakers and engravers Moser has to offer. It embodies harmony between the past and the present. The vase has a delicate, archetypal shape inspired by Chinese porcelain. Since antiquity the Chinese have used decorative motifs of nature, dragons, or battles. Illustrator Michal Bačák enlivened the vase with a new story that mirrors a combination of micro- and macrocosm in the crystal. He projected into the crystal depictions of organic forest details – seeds, algae, and moss spores. The vase has a white opal undertone to complete its look of delicacy.
Pinea
The earthy, dark green colour of the Pinea vase fits naturally into the concept of the collection. Jan impressed into it the colour, structure, freedom, and perfect harmony of his favourite pine forest. The vase comes in two sizes, the larger measuring 26.5 cm and the smaller measuring 23.5 cm.
Bark
The Bark set was born out of a drinking set called 1913. Bark‘s author, Jan Plecháč, drew inspiration from the aforementioned timeless set which first saw the light of day at Moser glassworks over a hundred years ago. He replaced the clean, precise forms with the irregularity of natural structures evoking the image of tree bark. Bark was created using a traditional hollow glass cutting technique in three sizes and with a capacity of 250 ml and 350 ml. The decanter has a capacity of 770 ml. The vase is 28 cm tall.
