The Iconic Pear Vase in a New Colour

2 September 2024, Karlovy Vary – The Pear vase has gained a new colour, inspired by the beauty of a real pear, where honey yellow transitions into warm brown-green tones. Its existing three colour schemes (aquamarine reseda, alexandrite rose, and beryl blue) have been complemented by a fourth – topaz reseda.

The Pear has become an iconic artwork of Moser glassworks that has managed to enter the public consciousness. The manually blown and cut vase captivates with the idea of an inclined object that nevertheless stands firmly on a robust base. It combines stability and dynamism, and its beauty is enhanced by carefully mixed Moser colours.

“Moser is on a new path, where soft and earthy tones reflect a contemporary approach to architecture and interior design. This wave is now joined by our iconic Pear, which harkens back to the source of its inspiration, rendered in warm natural colours,” says the Moser art director, Jan Plecháč. The Pear was first introduced into the glassworks’ portfolio in 2012. In the same year, it won its author, Lukáš Jabůrek, the Public Award from Czech Grand Design. Since then, thousands of these vases have been sold. It is now available in small and medium sizes. “It is a well-cut brilliant that firmly holds its inclined surface. The precisely cut edges of the exterior leave a strict and exacting impression, whereas the interior conceals a pure soul that testifies to how demanding the piece was,” adds its designer, Lukáš Jabůrek.

Along with this new colour, Moser also brings innovation to the manufacture of the Pear. Moser’s master cutters used to spend long hours grinding the glass to achieve the perfect shape with its sharp edges. Since the Pear is now blown using a metal mould rather than a wooden one, less glass is removed and the vase acquires a new optical effect of mirroring the interior surfaces. The change of mould also brings with it a change in the neck of the Pear from round to square.
