Magnus vase, 36.5 cm
The largest vase in the Magnus Collection is a true celebration of brutalism – a style that fascinates with its straightforwardness and confidence. The collection by renowned designer and Art Director at Moser, Jan Plecháč, builds on the brutalist aesthetic, providing it a unique colour. Standing at an imposing 36.5 cm, this solitaire unambiguously catches the eye in any space.

Boldness and innovation
Our glassmakers blow the Magnus vase into pearwood moulds. This requires great dexterity and experience as they precisely apply the molten glass, estimating the desired thickness of the walls and height of the massive bottom piece, known as the “ice”.
The Magnus Collection works with colours using a method unlike any other. An impressive effect is achieved via the technique of injected underlaying. This injection method gradually dissipates as the honey-brown topaz combined with blue creates yet a third colour: yellow-green. “The blue is gradually lost, and in the moment when its thin layer encounters the topaz, it creates an almost yellow-greenish tone,” says Jan Plecháč, explaining this alchemy of colours.
In many ways, this boldness and innovation when working with colours is reminiscent of Leo Moser’s experiments, son of the glassworks’ founder. Over a century ago, this visionary travelled to laboratories in Berlin to personally collaborate on the development of new colours, which later became Moser’s recognising feature. The Magnus Collection follows this same course.

Designer
Jan Plecháč
Renowned designer and the Art Director of the Moser glassworks. The glassworks has achieved much success under his guidance. Alongside the three-time victory at the 2023 Czech Grand Design Awards (Designer of the Year, Producer of the Year, and the overall Grand Designer winner), Moser also received the Grand Prix award for its “Born of Sand” installation at Designblok 2024. Jan Plecháč studied architecture at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague, which unites architecture with design. And precisely his architectural feel and knowledge are reflected in the Magnus vase.
