The collection that influenced an entire generation

The Pope carafe features a unique cut that enhances the optical effects of crystal. We have been producing it in the glassworks since 1916, but it acquired its name in 1923. At that time, Leo Moser, the son of the founder of our glassworks, brought it to the Vatican as a gift to Pope Pius XI. A hundred years later, Moser Glassworks repeated his gesture, presenting the carafe and glasses from this collection to Holy Father Francis. Each piece is still handcrafted using traditional techniques. Master glassmakers blow them into wooden molds. The best glass cutters then decorate them with the papal cut. The Pope Collection has gained popularity not only in religious circles but also among noble and diplomatic circles. It has influenced a range of Moser designs, giving identity to collections like Cromwell or Lady Hamilton.

The timeless elegance of the papal cut

When you first lay eyes on any of the pieces from the Pope collection, you’ll quickly realize why it became a favourite amongst religious dignitaries, diplomatic circles, and aristocratic courts. Its sophistication lies in the so-called “papal cut”. The bell-shaped chalice is decorated with a flat, arched cut. The faceted stem then gracefully transitions into a hexagonal crown. If you would like, the collection’s refined appearance may be topped with an oroplastic of 24-carat gold.

    • Hand-blown from environmentally friendly lead-free crystal
    • Hand cut and polished to a high gloss
